Visual Communication Processes: A Communication Approach to Understanding Visual Messages is an open source, interactive web text. Our purpose is to introduce the processes we use to create meaning from what we see. 

We use a four-part approach to study visual communication between humans:

First, we explore the eye and brain and how they work together to produce images in our minds. 

Next, we examine the way we interpret meaning out of signs and symbols. 

Third, we focus on the communication of symbols in messages exchanged between people. 

Finally, we examine the role of cultural context and visual literacy in visual communication.
